Found outside Lyon from a dealer we've worked with for years, this vintage French glass cloche came from his father's collection, built up over decades of looking. Cut in a diamond lattice scattered with rows of raised round bosses and topped with a fluted crown of a knob, it has the look of crystal in pressed glass. Domes like this were the standard of a French dessert table, set over the cake so it could be seen across the room and stay fresh until someone gave in. Sylvie keeps it over a stand with a few croissants underneath for whoever comes down first.
