Found outside Lyon from a dealer we've worked with for years, this vintage French glass piece came from his father's collection, built up over decades of looking. The pressed glass is cut in tall petals that climb the sides and open out at the rim, catching the light along every ridge. Pedestal dishes like it were made to lift fruit or sweets up off the table and into the center of things, raised so the glass could do its work in the candlelight. Sylvie keeps it on the table with a few pieces of fruit in it, the kind of thing that looks like nothing until the light hits it right.
