I have been keeping things for you. The light here comes off the water and changes its mind all day, which is why the painters came once and never managed to leave. There are apple trees behind the farmhouses and irises growing along the rooftops, planted into the thatch to hold the whole roof together. Inside those houses I found these: a chair worn soft by someone's grandmother, copper from a town that has hammered nothing else for eight hundred years, a mirror that has seen more mornings than anyone left in the house.
